The sun sweeps across the floor
and the shadows stretch in glorious joy
to twenty feet tall.
Hidden here
I ask the shadows quietly
how it feels to be a giant
and- if I stood beside them
could I be a giant too-
larger than a thousand lives
dancing between the aisles.
I stand up and stretch myself
to my limit
arms above my head
and laugh-
laugh at the twenty foot shadow before me
laughing back.

Expat Heart
Inside randiant joy, she can hear with her heart and with her ear the jubilation of a country. With fireworks behind her eyes she celebrates in her own way.
But coming to she stands alone again in a country that doesn't acknowledge the success of another. The snow sparkles innocently in the sun, the street serene on a sunday afternoon with no one about. Lik a sleeping chil unaware that there is a fire burning on the other side of town.
How is it that her heart can live in one place, but her body exists somewhere else so far away.
How long will her body last without its heart?
How long can she last being split so thoroughly in two.
Alone she leaves the sounds of horns and fireworks behind to move out into a frozen world.
Frozen herself for another time.

Wind
The wind came, and oh what a wind, lifting her hair from her neck and whispering wondrously marvelous things in her ears. Promises so grand even the wind could not keep them on its best day, and today no, today was not its best day. Silent to its entreaties she stayed on the balcony surveying the dankness of the streets beneath her. Gilded cages rotten beneath the pavement made only to crumble if she dared to step outside the walls. Silent she stayed until the wind moved on discouraged by her obstinacy.
No! she cried without sound gripping the railing with nerveless fingers. No, don’t leave!
And it returned obediently to brush across her skin again, holding out promises like peace offerings. Only its caress could ease her hidden heartache of years and years. Opening herself fully to the gusts the wind blew right through her bearing her pain away into the sky. Perfectly empty with nothingness she began to laugh at the wonder seeking out the clouds to find what happiness they carried in their bellies.
And finally smiling she did as the breeze bid her, setting her feet to the road outside the walls, one after the other in a straight line following its direction. Certain that at the end she’d find the paradise sought through the thousand heartaches before.

Breathe
Breath in clouds
Exhaled loudly to banish the cold.
Like a toker
Minus the weed
Minus the high
Minus the inevitable crash.
Breathe
In and outwards a sign
Of life
Behind my glazed eyes.
Breath in and breath out
Living
Maybe the only important thing I did today.

Feen Habibi?
feen habibi?
te busco en lo mas profundo adentro,
te miro por las brisas,
te escucho por los silencios,
y te encuentro murmurando
en los recesos
de mi pobre alma que te espera.
feen habibi?
feen hayati?
feen ya gozi?
yo te espero
en los recesos.
y te sigo amando.

Knife-edge
Like a knife she cuts
the tension
carves a morsel
morbid
silenced and deadly
from the ache in the air.
You don't see her smile
curved like a blade
edged sharply
to mark your skin.
Watch the jungle.
Watch the plains
and surfaces slick.
Watch her serve the poison
slice by slice
sandwhiched neatly
by the tension in the air.

A Poem a Day...
I've decided to post one poem/prose/story per day on here because I am getting out of practice of writing.
This post may or may not count for today.
I'll decide later.

One
Say: there is One.
None but He.
Fervently pressed to the ground
seeking peace against the angst of the mad world outside
finding meaning in these moments stolen
taken away from the rush and hue and cry
and disillusionment that awaits me
when I leave my sheltered paradise.
I breathe the quiet
and find still there
the little piece of God
I seek in these hushed and hurried seconds
of divine company in solitude.
Me alone but welcomed home.
Say: there is One.
There is none but He.
